Presque Isle woman sentenced in counterfeit case

BANGOR and PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Presque Isle woman was sentenced Wednesday at federal court in Bangor for passing counterfeit money at two Star City restaurants.

Jessica Jones, 31, was sentenced to two months in prison and two years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker, according to U.S. Attorney Darcie N. McElwee.

Jones allegedly used counterfeit $20 bills at Domino’s Pizza and McDonald’s in Presque Isle, later stating she had obtained the bills from someone who was trading them for drugs, according to court records.

Jones pleaded guilty to the charges on Aug. 25, 2021, court documents said.

The Presque Isle Police Department worked with the U.S. Secret Service in the investigation.
