Beals’ Country Store comes to Oakfield

OAKFIELD, Maine — Oakfield’s only grocery store has a new owner and a new name.

David and Billie-Jo Beals of Monticello have purchased the Oakfield Thriftway and plan to rebrand the store as Beals’ Country Store — Oakfield. The couple already own and operate Beals’ Country Store in Monticello.

The couple purchased the grocery store from Daniel Nelson, but terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The Beals kept the same staff with the sale, so customers will see plenty of familiar faces when they enter the Oakfield store. The store also added a new meat cutter — Kirk Bickford — who previously worked at Hannaford in Houlton.

Among the many changes planned for the store are the creation of a “beer cave” and relocating the kitchen and deli to a new corner of the building to allow for a larger space in which to make more prepared foods.

“We will be bringing our menu of items from Monticello down here,” David Beals said.

That means the addition of pizzas, hamburgers, french fries and other home-cooked meals rotating on a daily basis such as chicken broccoli noodle casserole, beef stew, lasagna, tacos and chicken pot pie.

The deli hours are from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The store is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and until 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. On Sundays, it is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional information can be found on the company’s Facebook page.
