Memorial Day services planned for Houlton

HOULTON, Maine – Veterans and their families will be lauded in Houlton Monday, May 30, as part of the town’s annual Memorial Day celebration.A short ceremony and raising of the flags will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at Soldier’s Hill inside the Evergreen Cemetery on Bangor Street. 

Veterans will then gather at the TD Bank parking lot on North Street for a short parade. The group will stop on the North Street Bridge to remember those veterans who were lost at sea. The parade will then continue through Market Square to Monument Park.

At 11 a.m., a remembrance ceremony will be held at the park. Members of the Houlton Middle-High School band and chorus will be on hand for the playing of patriotic songs and the National Anthem. 

Several guest speakers will address the audience and a gun salute will take place.

Following the ceremony, the American Legion Post No. 47 will hold a free luncheon at their post, located on Bangor Street. The meal includes grilled hamburgers and hot dogs.
