HOULTON, Maine — The Aroostook County grand jury indicted 36 people during its September session, including a Fort Kent man facing multiple charges for attempted murder and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
The indictments were released on Sept. 20 by District Attorney Todd Collins, who said that among those being indicted was Michael C. Baron, 24, of Fort Kent for his involvement in a July 31 incident in Stockholm.
Baron was indicted on three counts of aggravated attempted murder; four courts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon; theft; burglary; aggravated reckless conduct; and creating a police standoff.
During the July 31 incident, Baron allegedly tried to steal a vehicle and shot at deputies from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, as well as local residents. He then engaged police in a nearly four-hour standoff, which included barricading himself in an apartment complex before surrendering peacefully.
