Limestone embraces the magic of Christmas with annual parade

LIMESTONE, Maine — There wasn’t much snow on the ground, but that did not stop Limestone residents from getting into the holiday spirit Sunday evening.

Once again, community members lined the streets in their vehicles to watch the Christmas light parade roll by. All nine participants embraced the “Magic of Christmas” theme, stringing their cars, trucks and ATVs with colorful holiday lights.

Limestone Fire Department took home the Most Curb Appeal award while Cub Scout Pack 193 and Mark’s Towing Service were awarded Best Theme and Most Creative, respectively.

Other parade participants included the Limestone Chamber of Commerce, Limestone Rotary Club, Brian’s Ride Cancer Fund and Limestone Police Department.

After the parade, families eagerly hopped on the “Santa’s Express” bus and rode to Limestone Community School to visit with Santa Claus.

Simon Mullen, 6, of Limestone wasted no time asking Santa for a walkie talkie.

“We’ve come to the parade every year,” said Simon’s mother Emily O’Neal. “It’s a good way to get the entire community involved.”

Dianna Jamieson of Limestone brought her granddaughter Olivia Jamieson, 4, to meet Santa. Olivia asked Santa for a baby doll and stroller.

“She’s always so excited [to meet Santa],” Dianna Jamieson said.

While at the school, families enjoyed Christmas-themed arts and crafts and fresh kettle popcorn, hot chocolate and apple cider.

Limestone Chamber Director Michelle Albert said she was glad to see so many families despite other local holiday events happening.

“I’m happy to see people coming out to support the community,” Albert said.
