Tractor trailer crash shuts down Interstate 95

LUDLOW, Maine – A moose in the road was cited as the contributing cause of a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 on Dec. 8.

Dmitrii Vasilev, 42, of Moncton, New Brunswick, was traveling north on Interstate 95 near Ludlow in a 2016 Volvo tractor trailer hauling paper products when he swerved to avoid a moose standing in the road, according to Cpl. Nick Casavant of the Maine State Police Troop F barracks.

The tractor trailer left the road, traveled into the median and struck several trees. Vasilev was not injured in the crash, but the rig sustained significant damage.

Interstate 95 was completely shut down for several hours and later reduced to one lane while the tractor trailer was removed from the scene. No charges were filed in the matter.
