Grand Jury hands up May indictments

HOULTON, Maine — The Aroostook County grand jury handed up 43 indictments during its May session, including a Connecticut man arrested in Van Buren for drug trafficking and an Ashland man accused of arson.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but an indication that there is enough evidence in a case to move forward with a trial.

The indictments were released on June 8 by District Attorney Todd Collins, who said that among those indicted was Agustin Rosa of Meriden, Connecticut.

Aroostook County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Rosa, 46, on April 26, prompted by a resident’s report of a man displaying erratic behavior near the Van Buren District School, near the time school was to go in.

Deputies discovered what they suspected was fentanyl in Rosa’s pocket, and in his vehicle found drug paraphernalia, foil, scales and small plastic bags, according to police. They charged Rosa with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs, a class A felony.

Rosa was indicted on the trafficking charge as well as aggravated assault.

Also indicted was Brandon Saucier, 29, who was charged with arson following a residential mobile home fire on March 29 in Ashland.

Ashland police arrested Saucier later that night, acting on a warrant from the state fire marshal’s office. State investigators had determined the fire was deliberately set. Police also charged Saucier with criminal mischief and theft.

The grand jury indicted Saucier on all three charges.
