The Mapleton Daze Got Talent Show was held on Saturday, October 28 at the Mapleton Elementary School. The show’s program consisted of 12 competitive acts with two additional entertainers. There were four competitive acts in each of the three age brackets.
The show opened with an entertaining dance by Johanna Cote followed by the competitive group 10 years of age and under. The winner of that division was Derek Perry who demonstrated his skill at solving Rubik’s Cubes of various types and even behind his back. Also performing in this group were dancers Evelynn Wardwell and Vivienne Pelletier and singing Sydney Sponberg.

The second age group was the 11-18 age grouping and the winner in this group was Carrlyn Buck playing the piano and singing a Billy Joel song. Other competitors in this group were Brigid Schupbach dancing a hip hop/acro dance, a music duo with Zoe and Phoebe Gamblin playing the alto saxophone and clarinet, Annabelle Johnson playing a solo piece on the French horn and Seven Ross playing his own composition on the piano.
The final grouping was the 19 years of age and over. The winner of the adult group was Maddie Buzza who played the guitar and sang a Miley Cyrus song. Two additional singers in this group were PJ Murray and Amanda Robinson.

Just before closing of the show, the audience was treated to a surprise performance of two songs sung by Logan Chandler who was the very first winner of the “Mapleton Daze Got Talent Show”. Finally at the end, the winners were announced along with the naming of the Peoples’ Choice Award based on the competitor who accumulated the largest donation amount in his/her gallon donation jar in the back of the room. This year Carrlyn Buck was named the Peoples’ Choice Entertainer.
Everyone attending the show agreed all of the contestants were winners. They were terrific and their family members and friends applauded their various performances. Even the judges reported they had a hard time selecting the three winners. Because of the show’s success, the Mapleton Daze Got Talent Show will continue to be an annual event. The committee advises anyone who would like to participate in next year’s show to be watching for the sign up notification for talent show registration and become part of the show. The Mapleton Daze Committee appreciates the support of Mapleton Daze 2024 by both the talent competitors and members of the audience.
Online auction ends today
The Mapleton Daze Committee’s 5th annual Mapleton online Auction will conclude today, Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. Readers still have time to view auction items on the Mapleton Daze Event Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/130820123359452 and following the “Discussion” tab on the event page. Bids will be accepted until 6 p.m.
Even though the auction has been underway for the last two days, bids can be made today right up to 5:59 p.m. No late bids will be accepted after this time. This auction is a great opportunity to start some holiday shopping by bidding on some of the fine items being offered by the Mapleton Daze Committee through this auction. The items were given as donations for Mapleton Daze 2024. The Mapleton Daze Online Auction has always been a very fun event for bidders and participants. The best part is the many great deals that bidders find in the auction.
Because this is a fundraiser, winning items cannot be mailed. Bidders must pick up their purchases at the Mapleton Lions Hall, thus bidders living outside of the central Aroostook area may want to think twice about bidding for auction items but don’t think too long as the auction ends this evening.
