Presque Isle, Washburn, and Madawaska basketball teams in action during the holiday break

Aroostook County high school basketball teams are off and running with games that took place during Christmas break.

On Wednesday, Dec. 27, the Orono Red Riots beat the Presque Isle Wildcats 61-39 in Presque Isle in a boys varsity Class B basketball game.

Four players for the Red Riots put up double figures as Bergen Soderberg and Ben Francis scored 15 points while Will Franicis chipped in 13 points and Pierce Walston netted 12 points. 

Presque Isle’s Jack Buck fought back with 20 points and Wyatt Young netted 12 points but not enough to claim victory.

The Wildcats are 0-5 while Orono improved to 7-0.

The Presque Isle girls basketball team won their away game against Hermon on Thursday, Dec. 28 with a final score of 38-21. The Wildcat girls have a regular season record of 5-2.

The Washburn girls varsity basketball team blew out Madawaska 51-15 as they held a commanding lead throughout the Class D game that took place in Washburn on Thursday. The latest victory brings the Beaver girls to a record of 2-1.

Washburn’s Madelyn Johnston was the top scorer of the night with 21 points with teammates Logan Curtis racking up16 points and Isabelle Allen contributing 10 points.

Madawaska’s Lucy Hartvigsen and Dianiliz Conde-Silva each netted 5 points while Payton Pelletier scored 3 points and Leilanie Pierre had 2 points.

The Madawaska boys team defeated Washburn by a final score of 65-40. The Beaver boys have a regular season record of 2-2.
