Moosestompers Weekend coming up in Houlton

HOULTON, Maine — The Moose returns to Houlton this weekend for three days of Moosestomping fun.

The 28th annual Moosestompers Weekend, slated for Feb. 2, 3, and 4 promises to offer some of the best County snow and outdoor activities.

Many of the events Moosestompers have come to count on are returning like sledding on Derby Hill, monster truck rides, the hay wagon and toboggan rides, ice skating, the half-dollar scramble, a blazing bonfire and hot chocolate for everyone. And as usual, Sunday is again kids day.

With weather predicted in the mid-20s, the weekend festival will seem near balmy compared to last year’s 65-degree below fahrenheit arctic freeze that caused many Moosestompers events to cancel.

This year, some highlights include the kids snow dance with the Dua Lipa song from the Barbie movie before the half-dollar scramble.

There’s the Moosestompers fishing derby at Seiders Variety Store in Hodgdon.

Registration begins at 6 a.m. Saturday and is $10 for each fisher or three for $20. The prizes are $200 for the biggest trout and $200 for the biggest togue. Second place is $100 and third is $50. Weigh-in times at Seiders Variety are from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Don’t forget Friday’s $12 public pork loin supper from 4 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post or Saturday’s Meduxnekeag Ramblers Breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. at the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Clubhouse on Wiley Road in Littleton. The $12 for adults and $8 for children under 8 meal includes eggs, bacon, pancakes, baked ham, baked beans, homemade donuts and muffins, special pastries and beverages.

The traditional  ATV/ UTV  light parade kicks off at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Community Park, followed by fireworks at 6:30 p.m.

A complete schedule of events is on the Moosestompers online page.
