50 Years Ago — August 28, 1974

  Enrollment in schools down – Enrollment was lower in all six schools of School Administrative District (SAD) 27, according to a preliminary report on the first day, Aug. 19, 1974. The total enrollment showed a loss of 107 students over last year’s figures, with 2,336 for this year, compared with 2,443 on the first day of last year. School officials indicate that these are preliminary figures and will be adjusted prior to potato harvest.

25 Years Ago — September 1, 1999

Fashion Bug to host Model-A-Thon – The Fashion Bug store in Madawaska is teaming up with the 20 other Fashion Bug stores across Maine to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.  Every Fashion Bug in Maine, including the Madawaska location, hosted a “Model-A-Thon” at their store in Sept. of 1999. Fashion Bug sought models of all types and sizes for the event. Girls, misses, juniors and plus-size models were welcome to model the latest fashions during the two-hour show. The stores also sold cloud cutouts for a $1 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, to support Maine children living with life-threatening illnesses.

10 Years Ago — August 27, 2014 

Sr. Rachel Bouchard recognized — Sr. Rachel Bouchard, 94, of St. Agatha, was recognized in July of 2014, at the Montfort Spirituality Center in Bay Shore, N.Y. for 75 years of service, according to a press release from the Daughters of Wisdom, USA Province. Bouchard is a member of the Daughters of Wisdom. She is one of seven sisters who have collectively served 405 years of ministry in consecrated life. She has since retired, and lives in a Daughters of Wisdom retirement home.
