Presque Isle Middle School assistant principal resigns

The assistant principal at Presque Isle Middle School has resigned, according to SAD 1 Superintendent Ben Greenlaw.

George Knox resigned abruptly on Thursday, Greenlaw said. The superintendent declined to comment on the reason for Knox’s leaving.

“There’s some speculation about his resignation, and due to the fact that it’s a personnel matter, under Maine law it’s confidential,” Greenlaw said Monday.

The superintendent sent a letter dated Sunday, Nov. 17, to parents and guardians of middle school students that informed them of the resignation.

“For those with questions regarding the sudden nature of Mr. Knox’s resignation, the district is unable to comment further. Personnel matters are considered confidential by Maine law and cannot be shared publicly,” stated the letter, which Greenlaw shared with the Bangor Daily News.

The district is looking to fill the vacancy left by Knox’s resignation, Greenlaw said.

Knox started in 2011 as a social studies teacher at Presque Isle High School and became assistant principal at the middle school in 2019, according to SAD 1 school board meeting minutes.

Attempts to contact Knox were not immediately successful.
