FORT KENT, Maine – A Madawaska woman is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Frenchville Road in Fort Kent on Tuesday.

Police responded to the crash at 7 a.m., according to Fort Kent Police Chief Michael DeLena.

Brenda Guerrette, 48, of Madawaska, was driving a 2024 Jeep Rubicon and traveling east on Frenchville Road before the crash occurred, according to the initial investigation. After failing to negotiate a curve, police said the vehicle went off the road from the left side, traveled down an embankment, and struck the railroad bed. The vehicle rolled over several times before finally coming to a stop.

Fort Kent Fire Department and Ambulance Service went to the scene, and firefighters had to use an extrication device to remove Guerrette from the vehicle.

Guerrette was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center and was reported to be in critical condition.

Frenchville Road was temporarily closed while emergency personnel responded to the crash. Also on the scene were US Border Patrol, Frenchville Fire Department, and Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstructionist Deputy Matt Brown.

The crash is still under investigation, according to police.
