The intersection of Boundary Line Road and Aroostook Falls Road in Fort Fairfield was closed on Thursday afternoon, police reported.
A tractor trailer became stuck and police closed the road to help the driver and allow road crews to spread salt and sand, Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew Cummings said.
The driver’s unfamiliarity with the area and faulty GPS information were the causes, Cummings said.
“A lot of truck drivers get confused and have issues with GPS, which takes them out to Boundary Line Road by the U.S.-Canadian border,” he said. “They get out there so far and there’s no place to turn around, so they get stuck.”
Emergency crews were able to help the driver get out and, by about 2:30 p.m., one lane was reopened, Cummings said. The roadway was cleared and open at 2:45.
No injuries or damage were reported.
This story was updated to indicate the road has reopened.
