U.S. Route 1 in Littleton has reopened following a temporary closure, according to the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
The road was temporarily closed Friday near the Littleton Pit Stop at 1678 Route 1 due to a potential natural gas leak from a trailer truck, the Sheriff’s Office posted on social media.
Versant has shut off power in the area at the request of police and fire personnel, affecting 427 customers, according to its website. As of 12:45 p.m., outages affected 406 customers and the estimated restoration time was 2 p.m.
The power was cut for safety reasons, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.
Staff at the sheriff’s office and the Pit Stop said Friday afternoon they had no further details on the nature or status of the suspected leak.
Houlton High School set up a warming shelter for those without power, the post stated. The Pines Grill in Monticello also opened for those who needed to warm up.
