REED PLANTATION, Maine — The Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service reported flooding in the southern part of the County on Wednesday morning.

By Wednesday afternoon the National Weather Service reported that Bancroft Road between South Bancroft and Wytopitlock remained closed due to flooding.

Locations in Reed Plantation, Bancroft and Wytopitlock will experience flooding, National Weather Service officials said

On Tuesday, ice moving along the east branch of the Mattawamkeag River at Route 2 near Smyrna Mills had flooded the entire Oakfield flood plain, but no homes were threatened at the time.

On Wednesday there were no known road closures in the Oakfield and Smyrna Mills area.

Emergency officials warn motorists to turn around and not drive through flooded roadways or around closed road barricades because water levels can rise and fall quickly in the vicinity of ice jams.

An ice jam was also reported in Masardis and floes along the St. John River in Allagash had started to move, according to Aroostook County Flood Watch, operated by Aroostook EMA.
