We at the Central Aroostook Humane Society are excited to be setting up at this weekend’s Trash and Treasure Show at The Forum in Presque Isle.
It is always a fun event for us. We will once again be having our delicious bake sale, with lots of yummy treats to sell. This year we’ll also have some crafty items.
And, of course, our popular “lottery board” raffle will return. Only $1 will give you a chance to win more than $100 worth of scratch tickets.
We also always enjoy the many folks that stop by our booth to talk about their “fur baby” that was adopted at our shelter. We truly are so thankful for our many supporters.
If you’ve just become the owner of a new puppy, one important recommendation is to start socialization early. I had an experience with a beautiful little German shepherd female puppy who was not socialized, except for being just around her family. The several times I visited, the pup was very protective and aggressive. I absolutely love dogs and have no fear, but I definitely did not trust her.
Exposing your pet early to various people, environments and other animals will help them to develop confidence and social skills. And it certainly helps to use positive reinforcement methods, such as treats and praise, to encourage positive behaviors.
If it’s possible, it will also help to enroll in a training program, where you’ll learn to teach your pet basic obedience commands and address any behavioral concerns.
Stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society at 210 Cross St., Presque Isle, and check us out on Facebook.
Remember to be responsible pet owners — spay and neuter your pets.
