MADAWASKA, Maine — Another community-wide yard sale is coming to the greater Madawaska area later this month. The event will cover much of the St. John Valley and coincide with fall events in the area.
The sale will include the communities of Cyr Plantation, Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, Sinclair, St. Agatha, St. David and Van Buren.
It is set for Sept. 20 to 21 and will coincide with the upcoming Downtown Fall Festival, an event organized by the Madawaska Beautification Committee. The Fall Festival is set for Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will include crafts, artisans, food trucks and a bake sale.
Registration will cost $20 and include a $10 deposit for yard sale signs. The deposit will be returned to participants once the signs are brought back to the St. John Valley Chamber of Commerce & Tourism on Main Street. Signs can be picked up during the chamber’s office hours, which are Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The chamber’s spring yard sale held earlier this year saw a total of 45 people sign up, and in 2024 a total of 32 signed up. Last year, the fall yard sale had a total of 21 registered.
Chamber Director Jessica Blalock said she hopes to see a higher number of participants register for this year’s sale.
The registration deadline is Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. This gives Blalock time to create a map that includes each participating location along with what is sold at each spot. This lets people track each spot while driving through the St. John Valley.
Registration forms need to be taken to the chamber on 356 Main St. and exchanged for a yard sale sign. Forms are available both on the chamber’s website and at the Main Street location.
In addition to Madawaska’s fall events, Van Buren will also host a Harvest kick-off festival on Sept. 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Main Street Park.
