At the Aug. 25 meeting of the Haystack Historical Society, plans were finalized for their annual baked ham dinner to be held on Sept. 20.

The dinner is a longstanding tradition in Mapleton that has been enjoyed by many residents of Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill.  This year folks will be able to dine in the museum or do a drive-thru.  Dinner will include the traditional menu of honey baked ham, fresh-made potato salad, baked beans, dessert squares and soft drinks or water.

The charge for the traditional meal will be $12 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

This year a special children’s roasted hot dog meal will available for children and youth under 12 for $5 that will include a hot dog potato salad or chips, dessert and soft drinks or water.

As always, all funds raised will support the operations of the museum.

Lions food booth

The Mapleton Lions Club thanks everyone who came out to the Northern Maine Fair and the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest and enjoyed their food at the Mapleton Lions Den.  The support is greatly appreciated.

The club’s new doughboy cooking and serving line was a success at both the fair and the balloon fest.  Both food and doughboys were served quicker as result of the divided ordering and serving lines.  Doughboys were cooked fast as they were ordered, which reduced waiting time.

Customers commented on the improved speed this year at the food booth.

The club is now preparing for the coming Crisp Nights and Carnival Lights fall festival at the fairgrounds.  With the organization of the food booth and lessons learned at the prior two events, the club is ready to cook and serve patrons attending the this month’s event at the fairground.

Their food booth will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 and Friday, Sept. 12, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14.

They look forward to serving their sausage sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, red hot dogs, fries and doughboys.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a meal while riding the carnival rides and taking in the activities of the fall festival.  Come enjoy for one more time your favorite fair food.
