Wednesday-Friday
High pressure well south of the region will move into the Atlantic today as a clipper system approaches from the Great Lakes. Mostly clear skies this morning will become overcast by evening as the clipper low tracks from New York state to near the coast of Nova Scotia tonight. Showers are expected to overspread the Valley this evening and continue overnight with snow mixing in overnight.
The low will deepen as it moves east with northwest winds developing by early Thursday. Wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph are possible from late Wednesday night into Thursday evening, with the strongest gusts at higher elevations. Some snow accumulation is possible with 1 inch or less snowfall accumulation expected. Highs peak in the mid-40s with nighttime temperatures in the lower 30s.
Thursday will feature rain and snow early then a chance of snow showers over the course of the morning, with precipitation tapering in the afternoon. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are possible across the St. John Valley. Highs will top out in the upper 30s. Thursday night will be cold with overnight lows in the lower 20s under partly cloudy skies.
Partly sunny skies Friday morning will become mostly cloudy by evening as low pressure approaches from Ontario and lifts a weak warm front across the Valley. Snow is likely overnight into early Saturday before changing to all rain as warmer air moves into the region. Friday’s high will reach the middle 30s with temperatures Friday night in the lower 30s across most of northern Maine.
Saturday-Tuesday
Rain will taper off on Saturday as drier air moves in, allowing some late-day sunshine. Cooler air will follow, and Saturday night will be clear to partly cloudy and cold, with lows in the lower 20s.
Another storm will approach from the Midwest on Sunday, spreading rain into the area by afternoon. Northern and western Maine could see a rain–snow mix at first. The system will move through quickly Sunday evening, bringing a few hours of steady rain before drying out late at night.
Monday will be partly sunny and mainly dry as the drier air settles in. Fair weather continues into Veteran’s Day, then another fast-moving Alberta clipper could bring light precipitation by Wednesday.
