Wednesday-Friday
A partly sunny and chilly day is on tap for the St. John Valley today as weak high pressure builds across the region. Clouds increase as this evening as a disturbance crosses the state with an area of low pressure forming near the Downeast coast this evening. The disturbance may produce a few snow showers over the Valley tonight.
An upper trough will remain over the region Thursday with a closed low developing to the east in the Maritimes, producing partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies over the Valley Thursday with a slight chance of isolated snow showers. Partly cloudy and cold conditions are expected Thursday night.
Skies will remain partly sunny to mostly cloudy and breezy as the Maritime low retrogrades westward Friday into Saturday. Highs are expected in the low to mid-30s with overnight temperatures in the low 20s for the period.
Saturday-Tuesday
A low pressure system both at the surface and higher aloft will move slowly westward across Québec this weekend. Saturday will stay dry and partly sunny, but clouds will increase Saturday evening as another low pressure system approaches from the Great Lakes. Chances of snow will increase late Saturday night.
On Sunday, forecast models are still uncertain about exactly where the new storm system will form. Some models (like the European model) suggest it will redevelop over the Gulf of Maine and move east across Nova Scotia Sunday night. Others (like the GFS and Canadian models) show it forming closer to the Downeast Maine coast and moving quickly through the Canadian Maritimes.
Even with these differences, confidence is high that most of the area will see some form of precipitation Sunday into Sunday night. Northern areas are likely to get snow, while central and Downeast areas could see either rain or snow depending on the storm’s exact track.
By Monday, the storm should move off to the northeast. Skies will stay mostly cloudy with a chance of lingering snow showers and a gusty northwest wind. Tuesday looks calmer and dry with winds shifting more westerly. Highs in the low to middle 30s with overnight low in the lower to middle 20s for the period.
