Aroostook County saw its first measurable snowfall Sunday, when more than half a foot blanketed much of the region.
The heavy, wet precipitation started lightly Sunday morning and intensified in periods throughout the afternoon and evening, continuing overnight.
Most of The County woke up on Monday to a winter wonderland outside, with trees and branches robed in white.
Blaine received the highest amount with 10.3 inches, according to snowfall totals from the National Weather Service.
Here’s how much snow fell in some other County spots: Easton, 9 inches; Castle Hill, 8.9; Monticello, 7.8; Ashland, 7.7; Presque Isle, 7.5; Stockholm, 7; Madawaska, 6.8; Fort Kent, 6.5; Caribou, 6; Fort Fairfield, 5; and Houlton, 3.3.
Totals were considerably lower south of Aroostook, with Millinocket reporting 4 inches, Meddybemps, 3.8; and Eastport, 1.7.
It might seem early in the season, especially since last year much of Maine saw its first real snowfall in a Thanksgiving storm, but in 2023 The County’s first seasonal snow fell on Oct. 30.
Caribou weather forecasters predict a slight chance of additional snow tonight with fair skies expected through Friday, when snow and rain are anticipated.
