Aroostook grand jury indicts 66, including hit-and-run driver

The Aroostook County grand jury handed up 66 indictments for November, including the driver involved in a Caribou hit and run.

Caribou police were called to High Street on July 21 for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

The 31-year-old male victim and a friend, who had been walking near the Caribou Fire and Ambulance station, told police a black SUV came up from behind and struck the victim, police said. The vehicle reportedly appeared to turn onto Bennett Drive.

The victim was taken to Cary Medical Center for leg and ankle injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police reported on social media the next day that the driver, whom they did not identify at that time, had been located and court action was taken.

That driver was Dawn Morrison, 55, of Woodland, Officer Kevin St. Peter said Wednesday. Investigators identified the vehicle through evidence left at the scene and Morrison was arrested and charged in July.

She was indicted in November for leaving the scene of an accident and leaving the scene after causing injury.
