Drive-thru pet clinic offers rabies shots

Pet owners can get their dogs and cats immunized against various diseases on Saturday in Houlton.

The Houlton Humane Society will host a drive-thru vaccine clinic for pets from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at its clinic building, 263 Callaghan Rd. Rabies will be among the vaccines offered.

“Rabies is something by law you have to have for all your companion animals,” humane society director CJ Virgie said Wednesday. “You have to get your dogs licensed, and they have to have their rabies shots before you can license them.”

The society holds regular drive-thru immunization clinics on the third Saturday of each month, Virgie said. Dr. Jean Ennis of Island Falls Animal Health Clinic is the attending veterinarian.

Immunizations for distemper, canine parvovirus and Bordetella, or kennel cough, will also be available. Each shot costs $35.

“We have flea treatment, also, if you want to purchase that on your way through,” Virgie said. “It’s important to treat fleas because they can give [pets] parasites.”

No appointment is necessary. Visit the Houlton Humane Society’s website or Facebook page for further information.
