Hot and humid weather will continue across the Saint John Valley today as high pressure remains in control. A cold front approaching from Quebec will slowly move toward the region but is expected to stall nearby through Thursday night before finally pushing through sometime between Friday and Saturday. The exact timing of the front remains uncertain, which will affect when and where showers and thunderstorms develop late this week. While most areas will see only light rainfall, any thunderstorms that do form could produce brief, heavy downpours. Humid conditions will persist through much of the period, making it feel muggy both during the day and at night.
Today will be sunny, hot, and muggy with a high near 90°F. West winds 4-6 mph expected. Tonight, mostly clear with a low in the upper 50s/near 60°F. West wind 0-5 mph. Some patchy fog may form overnight into early Thursday.
Thursday, mostly sunny skies with with a high in the upper 80s/near 90°F once more. West wind 0-5 mph. Thursday night, mostly clear skies become partly cloudy overnight with a low in the middle 60s. Southwest wind near calm expected with patchy fog possible after midnight once more.
Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected Friday with a high in the middle 80s. A slight chance of showers in the morning with a chance of scattered showers in the afternoon with isolated thunderstorms possible through the afternoon as well. West wind shifts to the northwest in the afternoon evening in the 0-5 mph range.
Saturday, Aug. 8 – Tuesday, Aug. 11
The cold front is expected to cross the region Saturday and gradually slide towards the coast over the course of the day with showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon, for the Saint John Valley. A chance of showers and thunderstorms continues into Saturday night as the front dissipates towards the coast Sunday with low pressure over New Brunswick keeping some instability over the Valley.
Another cold front looks to approach from the northwest later Sunday and cross the region Monday into Tuesday with a continued chance of showers and thunderstorms for the region. Drier conditions develop Tuesday, though a chance of afternoon showers/thunderstorms remains possible.
Saturday will feature partly sunny skies with highs in the lower 80s. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms through the day, with showers becoming more likely during the afternoon and evening, along with the potential for a few thunderstorms in the mid-to-late afternoon period. Light and variable winds are expected. Saturday night, showers and thunderstorms remain likely through the evening before gradually diminishing overnight. Mostly cloudy skies will continue with lows in the lower 60s.
Sunday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the lower 80s. Showers are likely throughout the day, with thunderstorms becoming possible during the afternoon. Sunday night, a chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue through the evening before tapering off after midnight. Mostly cloudy skies remain with lows in the upper 50s.
Monday will bring a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 70s. There will be a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day. Monday night, partly cloudy skies are expected with a slight chance of lingering showers and thunderstorms. Overnight lows will fall into the middle 50s.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny with highs in the middle 70s. A slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms remains as a cooler and somewhat drier air mass settles into the region. Tuesday night, partly cloudy skies are expected with only a slight chance of an early evening shower or thunderstorm before dry conditions prevail overnight. Lows will dip into the lower 50s.
