Mapleton Lions Club is growing

The Mapleton Lions Club inducted two new members on Aug. 3. 

Lion Terry Sandusky, district zone chair and club secretary, led the induction ceremony that added Adam Walton and Collin Darrell as new members of the club.

Both of these new Lions are business owners.  Walton is owner of AR Walton Construction, a business that has been operating for over 30 years here in Mapleton.  Darrell is the owner of the Maple-Den that opened for business this summer as a gathering place on Main Street, where local food and drinks are served.

Both have already started working on Mapleton Lions Club projects.  Walton recently completed the new parking area at the Doyen Family Field adjacent to the Mapleton recreation facility.  With his restaurant experience and knowledge, Darrell helped the club prepare the Mapleton Lions Den for the Northern Maine Fair. 

New parking at the Doyen Family Field next to the Mapleton recreation facility is available for use. The surface is rolled crushed stone and can be used by folks going to the pool, using the picnic pavilion or attending soccer games and events.

Thanks to customers

The Mapleton Lions Club experienced a large turnout of customers at the Northern Maine Agricultural Fair this year.  Business was steady and almost overwhelming at times.  

The club thanks all who came and supported their community work. All funds raised will support local needs, including the new Willard C. Doyen Family Field, the town food closet, eyeglasses for those in need, Quoggy Jo youth skiing and the Mapleton Recreation Program and Little League.

Also mark your calendar for the coming Crown of Maine Balloon Fest, slated Aug. 28-30, when the Mapleton Lions Den will be open and serving your fair food favorites.  

The Crown of Maine Fest is free to everyone, so come and enjoy delicious sandwiches, fries, chicken fingers and doughboys while you are watching the balloon launches.  Check the Mapleton Lions Club Facebook page for more information.
