Senior citizens tour museum through Rec Center program

Rec Center senior fun
Several Washburn senior citizens, including Margaret Barker, Norma Baker, Audrey Pavlick, Glenna Ewing, Evelyn Woodman, Lorraine Harrison and Eunice Carman, joined Rec Director Marcie Barbarula on a trip to the Caribou Historical Society. The group enjoyed a bag lunch with coffee served by the museum.

Their tour guide was Washburn local Dennis Harris who is employed by the museum. He showed the group a variety of museum artifacts, books and items from the past.
The downstairs rooms included farm equipment and tools, along with items and historical records of former Caribou area doctors. They also saw lots of different photos of the Caribou area ‘way back when’ and enjoyed looking through the many photo albums and checked out some family histories.
The ladies seemed to enjoy themselves, and each were given the opportunity to take home a storybook item supplied by the museum featuring local area history highlights. They all noted how nice a program the monthly excursions are and that they appreciate the efforts of the Washburn Recreation Department to include them.

Lunar Chapter 126
Twelve members of Lunar Chapter 126 traveled to Washburn to find out that there is more to a library than just books. The library is going to bar-coding their books. That means that every book has to have bar codes applied. The bar codes have been prepared and then each bar code needs to be matched exactly by author, title and book number before being applied to the book.
After a total of 24 hours, there were piles and piles of books that had the bar codes attached and ready to be put back on the shelves. Members were pleased to help in this massive job and to be able to give some service for the children that use the library.
