meet County delegation
AUGUSTA — Two representatives from the Women, Work, and Community (WWC) Ambassador Club, Rowena Forbes of Castle Hill and Cindy Harvey of Caribou, braved the winter weather last month to meet with Aroostook legislators at WWC’s annual statewide Reception for Legislators and Funders at the Senator Inn in Augusta.

The reception is a biennial event designed to provide business and community leaders, including elected officials, with an opportunity to learn about the challenges that many women face in creating economic well-being for themselves and their families, as well as the opportunity and training that WWC provides throughout the state.

Sen. Troy Jackson (D-Allagash), Rep. Tyler Clark (R-Easton), Rep. Alex Willette (R-Mapleton), and Rep. Joyce Fitzpatrick (R-Houlton) attended the event, speaking with WWC’s Ambassadors and staff about their priorities in Augusta and their commitment to Aroostook County.

WWC Executive Director Gilda Nardone, originally from Presque Isle, highlighted the strong presence of supporters from Aroostook County and throughout the state.
“We had a great turnout this year,” Nardone noted. “We were very pleased that nearly 150 supporters could join us to celebrate Maine women’s accomplishments and show their commitment to working together toward a more promising future for Maine families.”
Founded in 1978, Maine Centers for Women, Work, and Community has been helping women and other workers in transition find jobs, start businesses, enroll in higher education, and build assets for more than 30 years. It is the only statewide comprehensive women’s economic development organization in Maine. The organization has grown from one site to eighteen sites serving all 16 Maine counties, including the Aroostook WWC Center in Presque Isle and outreach programs and services in the St. John Valley and southern Aroostook.
