Elementary Music Concert
There will be a Music Concert by the Fort Street Elementary School students on Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. at Central Aroostook High School. Come on out and hear what the students have been up to this year and see some of the interesting instruments they have been using. The band is under the direction of Adam Metzler.
Healthy Active Aging
There will be a Healthy Active Aging session held at the Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library on Thursday, May 31, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. May’s session will cover Milk Matters.
These fun and informative sessions are led by Chris Finemore of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and are designed to help explore the benefits of a good diet and physical activity.
They will be held the last Thursday of each month during 2007. For more information, please contact Chris at 425-6606.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill.
The special speaker was Ryan Fonbuena, operations manager of UPC Wind Management, LLC. He gave an update on the windmills in Mars Hill. They went fully commercial the end of March. Each windmill will undergo maintenance a number of times over the first year and semiannually after that. The output is what was expected.
They are working with the Appalachian Trail Club and the Big 13 ATV Club to mark the trails that will be used by each group. The roads that were constructed to access the mountain held up very well over the past winter.
Work is ongoing to re-seed the perimeters and fringes of the roads and windmill sites. Testing is also ongoing regarding noise issues that neighbors have experienced, with a full five-day test done recently. The results are sent to several agencies and commissions.
Bridgewater music jam
Bridgewater’s music jams take place each Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and feature old-time rock ’n roll, country, oldies and standards. Regulars are Denis Gagne (BHA president) on the drums, Jann Votaw (BHA secretary) on guitar and vocals and Simon Blawej Clair on guitar and vocals.
Trying to preserve a small town’s history is not an easy task, and the BHA thanks those who support their efforts. They hope to see everyone at their planned events.
Senior citizens
The Mars Hill, Blaine and Westfield Senior Citizens met on Wednesday, May 16, at the Mars Hill Snowmobile Club for a potluck dinner. There were 18 members and three guests present. President Gwen welcomed everyone. Don Cadrette asked the blessing and gave the invocation.
Following lunch, Tony Rutherford spoke to the group about rehabilitation services for seniors. There are many things available to help someone get back to normal following a setback due to illness, surgery or some other event.
A special prayer was given for the families and friends of three individuals that have passed away
recently – Edgar Wheeler, Dot Lamson and Bertha Mersereau.
Following the flag salute and singing of “God Bless America,” the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
The next meeting on June 6 will feature a Friendship Stew, so everyone is to bring a can of soup! BINGO is planned and members are asked to bring small household items to use as prizes.
The group will make a donation in memory of member Dot Lamson to the charity of her family’s choice.
Senior citizens’ meals
The Central Aroostook High School cafeteria will be a meal site for area senior citizens on Tuesdays, beginning Feb. 27. Senior citizens will be served at 12 noon each Tuesday that school is in session. The cost of the meal will be $3.25, payable at the meal site.

Bridgewater Historical Association

Bridgewater Community Club
The Bridgewater Community Club will meet on Thursday, May 31, at the home of Terri Brewer in Mars Hill.
The Community Club has been organized to promote friendship among women of all ages and to undertake projects that improve the community. Membership dues are one dollar per month, and all interested women are invited to attend.

Ladies Stitch and *itch Group
The Bridgewater Recreation Department has formed a Ladies’ Stitch and & *itch Group. The group meets every other Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Civic Building. Ladies of all ages are invited to attend. There is no charge to attend.
This is an opportunity to bring whatever you are working on: cross-stitch, embroidery, scrapbooking, sewing, etc., and share good conversation while working on your favorite project. If you do not have anything to bring, that’s ok too, as others will be willing share and teach.
All are welcome – you don’t have to be a Bridgewater resident to participate, so bring your friends, too!
