MARS HILL NEWS
by Tomi Henderson
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, May 10, at 6:30 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Sylvia Getman, president and CEO of The Aroostook Medical Center since August 2010. Sylvia and her husband Bill live in Mars Hill with their three sons, Bill Jr., Christopher and Jamison.
TAMC employs over 1,000 people in several locations. They have primary care and specialty offices, walk-in clinics, the 89-bed A. R. Gould Hospital, the 72-bed Aroostook Health Center, sleep and cath labs, a cancer center and dialysis for both in-patient and out-patient.
TAMC sponsored the eighth Survivor Aroostook Camp in 2010 which saw 60 high school seniors compete in the challenges. Other 2010 highlights included the digital mammography unit, inpatient dialysis, the Clinic at Wal-Mart, as well as receiving Blue Ribbon status. The AHC in Mars Hill received a 5-Star rating from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
There are a great many challenges for TAMC, both currently and in the future, but Getman sees them all as opportunities in disguise. She wants to focus on excellence, relationships with patients and physicians, and commitment to the local communities. She hopes that TAMC will be the best place for physicians to practice, for people to work and for those in need to receive care.
Employee of the month
Naturally Potatoes has announced that Matt Anderson has been selected as the April Employee of the Month. Matt has worked in the Quality Assurance Department as a lab technician since he was hired in August of 2007.
Matt has performed very well in his research and development duties, which have increased greatly since those duties were recently shifted solely to the QA Department. Matt has been able to continue handling his normal work load plus the additional duties of sending out samples for marketing, testing new ingredients in products and revising the recipes for the company’s customers. Matt has always been extremely flexible and willing to change his schedule to meet the needs of the department as well as the needs of production.
Congratulations to Matt in his selection. His tireless work ethic, exceptional job performance and his continual contributions to not only his department but to the company and its customers make him very deserving of this recognition. Matt will receive a gift certificate, plaque and will compete for the Employee of the Year award coming up at the end of this year.
