The Houlton Pioneer Times’ freelance reporter Karen Donato spoke to youths at Houlton Elementary School for Mother’s Day and asked the students “Why is your mom special to you and what would you like to give her for a gift?”
The following are the responses she received.
-
-
Nataleigh Nevers,
kindergarten
“My mom is special, she is nice. She helps me do my homework. If I could give her something special it would be a paper heart.”
-
-
Paxton Clark,
kindergarten
“My mom is special because she took care of me when I had my tonsils out. I would give her a bouquet of roses if I had the money.”
-
-
Fletcher Folsom,
first grade
“My mom is special because she takes me to the store and she watches my soccer games. I would give her strawberries and a card.”
-
-
Nathaniel Carpenter,
second grade
“My mom is special because she does all the work. She vacuums, mops and picks up stuff. If I could give her a gift it would be a mug that had Mom’s Rules: Keep it clean, Pick up after yourself.”

Sophie Bailey, second grade, HES
“My mom is special because she is the best mom. If I could give her a gift, I would draw a heart on paper, color it and cut it out. I would write “You are the best mom.”
