Grover’s best Thanksgiving
By Dora Wang
Every year, Thanksgiving came and went. When it arrived, all the turkeys of Kinzville were edgy and less social. Of course, we all know why. Afraid of ending upon a dinner table, the turkeys decided to hide in their homes. All except one turkey, named Grover.
Grover had beautiful golden brown and blue feathers, and he loved to eat. Because of that, he loved Thanksgiving. But many cookbooks included recipes using turkeys in every sort of way. Baking, frying, stuffing — it made him shudder to think about it.
Perhaps this Thanksgiving can be different.
Grover had an idea. If it worked, the turkeys might enjoy this holiday again. He could put together a cookbook with recipes without using turkeys, and the book would be published in time for Thanksgiving. Pets would buy his book and using the money he’d earn, Grover would host a Turkey-Free Thanksgiving Festival!
There was still a week until Thanksgiving Day. Time to go on a recipe scavenger hunt!
Three days left. Grover had 145 pages of no-turkey recipes, published. He couldn’t believe his plan was actually working! Now only if someone would buy it, actually many “someones.” For an entire afternoon, Grover made lots of posters encouraging pets to buy his cookbook. He called his friends and asked them for their help.
“997, 998, 999, 1,000!” Grover squawked. After six days of tiring work, he made 1,000 kinzcash! Tomorrow, every turkey can enjoy Thanksgiving! Grover fell fast asleep, dreaming of a wonderful Thanksgiving.
The next morning, Grover awoke at 7 a.m. He was to arrive at 8 a.m. and check if everything was in place. There were the contests, the rides, the balloons, and the … food? Of course! He felt like he saw a hunter signing his death contract. Grover was so busy, he forgot to prepare food! What kind of festival doesn’t have food? Not only that, he sold his last copy of his cookbook.
Just then, his doorbell rang. Grover ran to open the door. “Surprise!” Every turkey in Kinzville was there. Each turkey’s wings held a different plate of food. All the food in his recipe book was in reality! He couldn’t have been happier.
Grover’s plan had worked out after all. The festival was a huge success; and the turkeys, well they celebrated Thanksgiving like never before.
The End.
