NMCC to offer
‘Introduction to Social Media’ workshop
PRESQUE ISLE — Northern Maine Community College is offering an informative session to help area residents discover new ways to “get connected.” An “Introduction to Social Media” workshop will be held Friday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m.-noon on the NMCC campus.
This new workshop will serve as a tool for new users and focuses on the basic uses of social media, as well as a “how to” for creating both personal and business-related pages.
It will explore the platform of social media as a whole and is designed to help those looking to get started using some of today’s most popular social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Myspace.
The session will be led by Natalie St. Pierre, event and editorial coordinator at NMCC.
In that role, St. Pierre serves as administrator of the NMCC Alumni and Friends Organization Facebook page which provides a new outlet for informing alumni members of the most recent events taking place on campus and helps connect alumni and others to the college.
St. Pierre has both attended and led workshops surrounding the use of social media for business and social development.
“Social media is viewed by many to be the most widely used form of mass communication available today. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter allow users to receive moment to moment updates from around the globe, share news, and maintain relationships like never before,” said St. Pierre. “This workshop will serve as a way for community members to create, develop, and use these sites for both professional and social networking.”
The workshop is being offered at a cost of $39. For more information or to register, call the continuing education division at 768-2849.
