PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Caribou boys fell short by just two points in their effort to defeat Hermon for the Penobscot Valley Conference Class B championship.

The Vikings scored 42 points, with the Hawks taking the top spot with 40. Still, Caribou finished as runners-up while defeating seven other similar-sized schools in the meet held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Saturday afternoon.

“We competed extremely well,” said Caribou coach Roy Alden. “The athletes rose to the occasion, making it a very close meet.

“A difference of just one spot, by three or four seconds, in a couple places would have made it a tie, and we would’ve won the tiebreaker,” he added.

The Vikings featured the second, third and fifth place finishers. Dylan Marrero crossed the line on the five-kilometer course with a time of 17:18.4 to earn runner-up honors. Kyle Boucher was third in 17:33.6 and Jordan Duplessie two slots back in 17:42.3.
