Soccer registration ends Aug. 15 at PI Rec

    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun soccer registration for youth in grade Pre-K through sixth grade. Registration ends on Aug. 15. To register, come in person to the William V. Haskell Community Center, Monday through Friday between 8  a.m. and 5 p.m.

KeyBank charity golf tourney is Aug. 18

    The sixth annual KeyBank Charity Golf Event will take place Saturday, Aug. 18 at Presque Isle Country Club.

    Proceeds will benefit several area charitable organizations and projects, including animal shelters, school projects, Project Graduation, Presque Isle Youth Hockey, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the United Way of Aroostook and Women, Work and Community.

    New organizations receiving funding this year are the Aroostook House of Comfort, C-A-N-C-E-R and Junior Achievement.

    Prizes include cash for the winning teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions for both gross and net scores. Prizes will also be offered for closest to the pin, longest drive and a putting contest. A new car, sponsored by Griffeth Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, will be a hole-in-one prize.

    A barbecue lunch for all participants is being provided, courtesy of Star City IGA.

    The shotgun start is at 9 a.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m. There is no minimum handicap for the three-person teams. The registration fee is $120 per team.

Varsity round robin set Thursday, Saturday

    The 20th annual Invitational Soccer Tournament, hosted by Presque Isle High School, will take place at the Johnson Athletic Complex Thursday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 11.

    Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

    Games are held from 3-7 p.m. on the first day of the event and from 8:30-12:45 on the second. Girls and boys teams participating will be Ashland, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Van Buren and host Presque Isle. Round-robin games will be 25 minutes in length.

    Following round-robin play, the 30-minute championship games will be held at 11:35 a.m. Saturday for the boys and at 12:15 p.m. for the girls.

PIHS fall sports tryout dates announced

    Presque Isle High School will hold tryouts/practices for some of its fall athletic teams soon.

    Fall cheering tryouts are set for Aug. 13 and 14 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the upper gym at Presque Isle High School.

    Girls cross country begins Aug. 13 from 4-5:30 p.m. and boys cross country also begins Aug. 13 from 5:30-7 p.m. Those interested should meet in the lower gym at PIHS prior to the start of practice.

    Golf tryouts are Aug. 13 and 14 at 3:15 p.m. at Presque Isle Country Club.

3-on-3 hoop tourney slated in Washburn

    The Washburn August Festival 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be played Saturday, Aug. 11 beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Washburn District High School gymnasium.

    The under-14 year-old and 14-16 year-old age divisions will require an entry fee of $20 per team. The entry fee for the open division is $48 per player.

Soccer season tickets on sale at PIHS

    Season tickets for Presque Isle High School varsity soccer are available Monday through Friday at the athletics office from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $30.

    They will also be available at the ticket booth at any varsity home game. These passes are good for regular season games only. Call 764-6507 for more information.
