The eighth annual Fat Tire Festival
MOUNTAIN BIKE racers take off for the initial lap of the 12-Hour Epic, held July 28 at the Nordic Heritage Center as part of the eighth annual Fat Tire Festival.

The event tested an individual’s or team’s endurance as they tried to complete the most laps on the eight-plus mile course over a 12-hour period. Christian Charette of Fredericton, New Brunswick was the captain of the Fredericton Killer B’s team in the men’s duo division, which was able to complete 17 laps in 11 hours, 21 minutes and 4 seconds for the title. In the Downhill Race held July 29, the men’s champion was Chad McPherson of Presque Isle, whose time was 2:03.27. Winning the female division was Alison Thayer of New Portland in 2:33.29 and the junior boys winner was Keegan Ennis of Presque Isle in 2:13.47. Division winners in the July 29 Mountain Bike Biathlon were, in the air rifle division, Sarah Beaulieu (8:56) and Sami Husain (11:10), and in the .22 division, Andrew Marble was the top male in 18:41 and Kelly Murray the top female in 23:48.
