Summer hours wrap up at Mapleton pool

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

The Mapleton Community Pool will be open the remainder of this week for general swim. Hours will be today and tomorrow from 1-6:45 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 10 from 1-3:45 p.m. Don’t miss your final chance to enjoy one last swim in our community pool!

Museum happenings

The Haystack Historical Society Museum will remain open on Saturdays this month before closing for the season. This Saturday, Aug. 11, Dana Allison will be demonstrating hand-quilting techniques from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. During that time, all displays will be available for viewing, including the “Maple Leafs,” Mapleton’s High School yearbooks from 1919-1963. Local artisans are being sought to share their art, hobby or a book they have written during museum hours this month. If you are interested, please contact Diane Pratt at 764-6085.

At the Northern Maine Fair this year, the Society held a display at the Historical Pavilion that was located inside The Forum. Dena Winslow created a butter-making display, showing and using items from the Museum. She also took some time to work with the local 4-H group, teaching them butter-making techniques. Plan to stop by the Museum this Saturday to see more fascinating displays! Admission is free.
