Southern Aroostook breaks century mark

DYER BROOK, Maine — A total team effort carried the Southern Aroostook boys basketball team to a 100-25 victory over Ashland Wednesday evening.

Every member of the Warriors roster got into the scoring action, as Southern Aroostook jumped to a 32-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Hunter Burpee led all players with 25 points and numerous rebounds for the Warriors. Jacob Brooks chipped in 14 points, followed by Buddy Porter with 12; Garrett Siltz, 11; Chris Caswell, 10; and Drake Weston and Brennan Burpee each with six.

Robert Chambers converted a 3-pointer with time winding down to break the 100-point plateau for Southern Aroostook. It was Chambers’ only points of the game.

Foul trouble limited Ashland in the first half as the Hornets also struggled against Southern Aroostook’s pressing defense.

Gabe Page was the top scorer for the Hornets as he scored 13 points. Chandler LeGasse added four points, while Inyas Janoch and Lukas Deabay each had three and Alden Rothier two.

 

The  Warriors converted 9 of 12 free throws (75 percent), while Ashland made 3 of 10 foul shots (30 percent).
