Starting own business — Arthur Bowden, who has been employed by the Caribou Water, Light and Power Company for several years, has resigned their position to start up his new business.
75 Years Ago – Feb 28, 1946
Caribou vets to open restaurant — Two returned Caribou vets expect to open a new Caribou restaurant on Main Street within the next two weeks. Sammie Hackett and his brother-in-law Bud Olson are the owners of the restaurant.
New wholesale house for auto parts here — A new business firm recently welcomed to Caribou’s fast growing and expanding trading center is the Aroostook Auto Parts Co., wholesalers of automobile parts, supplies, accessories and tools.
50 Years Ago – March 3, 1971
Local Girl Scouts will mark 59th birthday — The 50th birthday of the Girl Scouts of the USA will be observed during Nat’l Girl Scout Week, March 7-13 starting here on Sunday with the Caribou Girl Scouts. On Friday the Girl Scouts of Caribou are holding a birthday party for all area Girl Scouts at the Melody Roller Rink. Cake will be served.
Valentine party — The Holy Rosary folk group “Life’s Celebration” performed for 78 senior citizens present at the third annual CYO-MYP senior citizen party held on Feb. 14 at the American Legion in Caribou.
25 Years Ago – Feb. 28, 1996
Muscular dystrophy fundraiser — The Aroostook County Chapter of Maine Harley Owners Group recently raised $850 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during a bowling event held at Evergreen Bowling Center.
Caribou couple wins $800,000 — Life’s going to be just a little bit better for Florentine and George Berube of Caribou. Florentine found out last Saturday that she had won the Tri-State Megabucks jackpot and is finding it hard to believe she was the sole winner of the $800,000 jackpot. She will receive after taxes a prize of $580,000.
