CARIBOU, Maine — A Houlton man is on the run after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Caribou.
At 8:52 a.m. Thursday, Caribou police attempted to stop 34-year-old Kyle Williams while he drove his blue 2011 Volkswagen Golf. Williams dropped off a passenger on Westwind Drive before speeding away, Sgt. Keith Ouellette said.
Williams had violated bail for a previous arrest, leading officers Hunter Flynn and Craig Peterson to pursue his vehicle, Ouellette said.
Williams ended up on Sweden Street in Caribou before continuing onto Route 161. The chase ended at the intersection of Route 161 and Station Road in New Sweden after officers identified Williams as the driver.
It is common practice for police to end a chase after identifying the driver, so long as there is no immediate danger to the public or felony charges involved, Ouellette said.
Williams remained free Thursday afternoon. He faces charges of eluding officers, violating conditions of release, criminal speeding, driving to endanger and driving after his license was revoked.
Those with information on Williams’ whereabouts can contact Caribou Police Department at 207-493-3301.
