FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine – Police in Fort Fairfield arrested two local residents Sunday after they allegedly assaulted an officer.
On January 14, Joseph Levesque, 37, was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe on Main Street in Fort Fairfield when an officer pulled him over for a suspended license plate. Levesque drove away in his vehicle, then fled on foot into an apartment building where he lived on Fort Hill Street, said Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew Cummings.
After the officer followed Levesque into the apartment, Jayna Easler, 34, of Fort Fairfield allegedly assaulted the officer. Levesque then emerged and tried to strangle the officer, Cummings said.
Cummings did not reveal the name of the officer who was allegedly assaulted or that of another officer who assisted in arresting Easler and Levesque.
Both Easler and Levesque were transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton, after which Easler was able to post bail.
Levesque now faces charges of assault on an officer, obstructing criminal prosecution, operating after suspension of a driver’s license, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, obstructing government administration, violation of conditions of release and operating under the influence of drugs.
Levesque has nine previous arrest warrants for failing to appear in court for offenses that occurred in other communities and seven active sets of bail, Cummings said. He made his initial court appearance January 16.
Easler will appear in Presque Isle Unified Court March 13. Easler has been charged with assault on an officer, refusal to submit to arrest or detention and
obstructing government administration.
Charges are pending for other individuals involved in the Jan. 14 events at the apartment, Cummings said. Presque Isle police and U.S. Border Patrol assisted Fort Fairfield officers.
