Katie Buob of CrossFit Presque Isle took second place in the New Kids on the 321 Block Competition in Topsham on July 12.
Participants completed three workouts with the top five participants moving on to the finals for a fourth. The final workout was a 400 meter run followed by 21-15-9 reps of air dyne (for calories), barbell facing burpees, and thrusters (55 pounds).
Also representing CrossFit Presque Isle were Adam Simoes, Chase Guerette, Jason Parmalee, Keith Wilcox and Kyle Washington.
“Katie did unbelievable” says Adam Simoes, a trainer for CrossFIt Presque Isle. “This was a competition designed for people newer to CrossFit, and they threw some stuff at us that we hadn’t worked on much, or at all.”
Known as the “Sport of Fitness”, CrossFit competitions are held at gyms throughout the country. The CrossFit Games were a nationwide event recently aired on ESPN where Rich Froning and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet were crowned the Fittest Man and Woman on Earth.
“It was a very fun day getting to check out another CrossFit box, and meet other athletes. One of the things that is so fantastic about what we do is the community and camaraderie that we build, because as CrossFit athletes we know what each other is going through,” says Buob. “I am so proud of how all of our athletes did in the competition.”
Open since January of this year, Six05 offers CrossFit classes that are held six days per week, including free community workouts on the first and third Saturday of each month.
