‘Time’ flies at Phil’s – Time flew for Phil Cyr last weekend in October of 1974. He lost 150 wrist watches to thieves, who flew out a back window in his Market with an estimated 150 watches valued at $5,850 late on a Saturday evening. Phil checked the store at 10 p.m. Saturday, to look at the furnace. Then, when he checked the store again Sunday morning, he discovered the telephone was off the hook and a hammer was on the floor. Also purloined in the ripoff were $300 in unstamped food stamps and $65 in coins of all denominations from the drawer of the cash register. The local Police Department continued an investigation of the incident, under the direction of Chief Louis Daigle and Assistant Norman Chasse.

Maine School Nurse of the year – The Maine Association of School Nurses has named Elaine Ouellette the School Nurse of the Year. Ouellette has been a school nurse in SAD 24 since 1992 and is very active in the school system. The annual award, presented this year at the MASN in Lewiston on Oct. 29, 1999, recognizes an individual in the areas of providing care, program management, health education, professional development, political and legislative activity, community involvement and research.

O’Learys harvested three moose– One family harvested three moose while hunting during the week of Oc. 13-18, 2014. Trevor O’Leary of St. Francis and Dale O’Leary of Mars Hill, originally of Allagash, harvested a 746-pound moose with a 45-inch rack on Monday, Oct. 13 in Allagash. Two hunters in the group also harvested two moose on Wed. Oct. 15. Sean O’Leary of Gray and Brenda O’Leary of Blaine harvested a 642-pound cow, and Tracy O’Leary of Bridgewater and Jessica O’Leary of Mars Hill harvested an 831-pound moose with a 63-inch rack.
