Carl Watson’s 200 Dodge

    Name: Carl Watson
    Hometown: Smyrna
His vehicle: a 2001 Dodge truck
His story: Originally, Watson said he bought the truck for everyday use.
“But then, my brother made fun of my little red wagon,”recalls Watson with a grin. “So, I souped it up a little so it would beat his V-10.”

Eventually Watson started taking the truck to truck pulls all around the state. He’s currently on his sixth season with the Northern Penobscot Pulling Association. Watson’s earned multiple honors during that time, including being named the Points Champion for the 2006 season.
Preparing a vehicle for truck pulls is an ongoing process, said Watson, who relies on Mitch Harris, shop foreman at DBJ McGuire, for mechanic work. This summer, Watson said he probably only put a few miles on the truck, but he’s changed the oil three times.
“I just like going to the pulls and talking with the other pullers,” he said. “It’s like a mini getaway.”
He competed in 12 pulls in 2007, and although Watson refused to divulge any particulars, he did say he would be ready to take on the competition again in 2008.
