Hannaford Supermarkets has announced that it is recalling all ground beef products purchased in Hannaford stores with use or freeze by dates of Oct. 11 – Oct. 31. Additionally, the recall extends to Century Farms ground beef products purchased in Hannaford stores with use or freeze by dates of Oct. 11 – Nov. 3. Consumers should return products to their local Hannaford for a full refund.
The product is part of the Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. voluntary recall of approximately one million pounds of ground beef products that might be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
“While Cargill has informed us that there have been no reported illnesses from the product, our policy is to err on the side of caution when food safety is involved,” said Hannaford spokesperson Caren Epstein.
“Safe food handling is essential. One way to insure that potentially harmful bacteria is killed is to cook all ground beef to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.”
Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Cargill’s toll-free hotline at 877-455-1034. For questions regarding Hannaford’s refund policy, please contact the Hannaford Customer Information Center at 800-213-9040.
