Area Girl Scouts gather for annual ‘Thinking Day’ events

    ISLAND FALLS — On Friday, Girl Scouts from around the region gathered to celebrate World Thinking Day, a Scouting event that dates back to 1926.

    World Thinking Day was designed to be a “special day when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all around the world think of each other and give thanks and appreciation to their ‘sister’ Girl Scouts.” It’s a day to celebrate world friendship, peace and understanding.

    Locally, each troop involved in the event created a display which highlighted the country of their choice. Troop members create a display with information and facts, a craft originating from their chosen country and food from that nation.

    The event, held at the Island Falls Municipal Building, opened with a presentation of flags and a short candle-lighting ceremony that emphasized the importance of friendship and understanding. After which, girls were divided into groups and visited each display.

    Participating troops and their featured countries were: Troop 254 of Hodgdon showcasing Norway; Troop 410 of Houlton presenting Japan; Troop 1487 of Houlton, Ireland; Troop 205 of Monticello, Mexico; Troop 568 of Sherman, Italy; Troop 819 of Sherman, India and Troop 548 of Island Falls, Sweden.
