LITTLETON – Dora Augusta (Ames) Sharp, 97, died September 28, 2008, in Littleton. She was born August 20, 1911, in North Haven, the daughter of Vernon and Eva (Clement) Ames.
Dora received her Bachelors Degree in History and Social Studies from Wheaton College in Norton, MA, and her Masters Degree in Social Studies from the University of New Hampshire in Durham. She also studied at Harvard and Boston University. She taught social studies at Appleton Academy in New Ipswich, NH, Milford High School in Milford, NH, Dartmouth High School in Dartmouth, NH, Toms River Schools in Toms River, NJ, and Dover Township Public Schools, Dover NJ. For 18 years she was the Director of Guidance at Morris Hills Regional High School of Rockaway, NJ, and finished her career as full time guidance counselor at Morrs Knolls High School in Denville, NJ. She was awarded the Boston Gold Cane as Littleton's oldest citizen just before her death. She married Ladd R. Sharp on January 31, 1963, in Rockaway, NJ.
Dora is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ladd; her niece, Harriet Alexander of Iowa City, Iowa; one nephew, Stanley F. Ames of Golden, Colorado; and her beloved dog, Millie. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Frank Clement Ames; one sister, Margaret Eloise Ames; one niece, Margaret Alexander.
She will be interred in the Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.
