The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met in the parish center Sunday, Dec. 7, after the 11 a.m. Mass and Eucharist.
The prayer for direction, salute to the cross, prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel, Pledge to the Flag and a Christmas carol was sung by the group. Betty Ann Childers led the prayers and Cruz-Cruz led the singing.
Betty Ann had several packets of the drug program on display and anyone could have one who wanted one. You just place your drugs or pills in the packets and leave it for the mailman. That’s all there is to it and you will have done your part in keeping our water clean. Children are playing with the used bottles and they are not supposed to, this will help keep the bottles where they belong.
Mary Grant gave a report on the Giving Tree stating that several tags were still left. She urged the ladies to take a tag, if not already done.
“Happy Birthday” was sung to Yvonne Blake. Angela Blake, her daughter-in-law was a guest.  Other guests were Leona Clark, sister of Ethel Schools, and Evelyn McDonald.
Betty Ann reminded the ladies that we still would have a day of recollection in January. The date will be announced.
Checks will be sent to Cary Library, Salvation Army, Food Pantry, Battered Women’s group and St. Mary’s for flowers for the altar.
A round of applause was given to Margaret Casey for being in charge of the Thanksgiving dinner program. She said many had dined at the parish center and many more had taken a meal home.
Birthdays were acknowledged as: Yvonne Blake, Cindy York and Evelyn Callnan. There are no anniversaries in December.
An end of the year meal will be celebrated in May with Cathy Bither cooking the meal. The date will be announced soon.
Bernette Roach brought us up to date on her husband’s health: Bill is walking a little bit now and taking solid foods. His address is Bill Roach, Brewer Rehab and Living Center, 74 Parkway South, Room 101, Brewer, Me. 04412.
Prayers were said for those who are sick.
Janet Barker headed the Christmas swap. We all had fun with that. Wassail was available and lots to eat, too. The tables were decorated in the Christmas motif.
The ladies present were, Alice Adams, Janet Barker, Rose Bushey, Cruz-Cruz, Rose Levesque, Marcella Michaud, Janet Mitchell and Eva Pelletier, Yvonne Blake, Margaret Casey, Lynette Dobbs, Lois Downing, Louise Guillette, Judy Reid, Mary Callnan, Ethel Schools, Gail Schools, Jean Adams, Janice Harrigan, Mary Grant, Jane Stile, Ethel Mersereau, Bernette Roach, Betty Ann Childers, Alice McQuarrie, Alma Gallop, Rose Levesque and Helen Glidden.
