ImageWELCOME BACK — Friends, Judy Reid, left and Margaret Casey, were among the many happy wellwishers who greeted Richard Stairs upon his return from Iraq.
HOULTON — The distinctive chopping sound of helicopter rotor blades sliced the night air joining a ground contingent of some 30 friends and family members who welcomed home the Border Patrol’s Director of Air and Marine Operations for Houlton, Richard Stairs, last Friday after his third tour in Iraq.  A combined escort of five cars from the Houlton Police Department and Border Patrol rolled into McDonald’s parking lot to greet Stairs who had been working in Iraq as a senior pilot flying a Blackhawk helicopter for medical evacuations in Baghdad South.
“This is awesome,” said Stairs whose sentiments were echoed by his wife Jackie. “It’s awesome to have him home safe and sound,” she said as their sons, Ricky and Robby were caught up in the joy-filled atmosphere to welcome Stairs back to Houlton after being away for a year.

A SIGN OF THANKS — Despite the frigid temperature and icy ground, nothing could cool the happy sentiments of well-wishers who greeted Richard Stairs upon his return from Iraq. Stairs, still in his uniform, hugged wife, Jackie, as they were surrounded by friends and family. Sons, Ricky and Robby behind Stairs and wife Jackie, were joined by Troy Keehn of the Border Patrol, Iliana Moreno and daughters, Adrianna and Rebecca. Nick Guy and Adam Casillas are up front holding the banner.

Houlton Sector Border Patrol Deputy Chief, Alfredo Casillas, said “Great. We want to welcome him home. He’s definitely one of our family and we’re glad to have family home.” Casillas said a few from Stairs’ unit also were on their way back to the county: “Just glad to see that they’re all home safe and have our prayers answered.” Saying it was his honor to serve, Stairs added “supporting us is the biggest thing you can do.”
