The second Lenten Breakfast was held March 8 at the Whittier Congregational Church under the supervision of Don and Candy McKellar. They were assisted by Phil Faulkner, who made the toast, Sam, who is the best bacon cooker in town, Verna Boone and Marion Hoar, who did the serving, along with Candy. Don, the chef, made the pancakes (blueberry and chocolate chip) and the menu also included miniature crescent rolls, eggs, bacon, coffee, orange juice and homemade raspberry jelly to go on the rolls and toast.
The weather wasn’t very cooperative, but the hardy souls who attended the breakfast had a grand time. All are looking forward to next week to see what the menu will be and to enjoy it along with the fellowship that goes with it all.
Clayton and Charlene Webb have been in Bangor recently where they attended the surprise 50th birthday party for their niece, Darlene Kenny. The party was held at Gagan’s Restaurant in Bangor. Darlene’s husband, Greg and their children Shawna, Matthew and Trey arranged the affair. Charlene made the birthday cake and decorated it in Darlene’s favorite colors black, pink and green.
I am back to feeding deer again, as I spied two of them out in front of my house quite early one morning. I am an early riser and there they were. Then the following evening about 6 p.m., five more arrived on my front lawn, but ran like mad when I threw some bread out for them.
I plan to put out some more for them, but later in the day so the crows and blue jays won’t eat it first. I had a flock of grosbeaks in my feeder one morning, plus my two nuthatches, which fluttered around trying to get at the seeds while the bigger birds were there. I also have one or two sparrows that come quite often to the feeders, along with the little chickadees. This keeps me quite busy running out with birdseeds to keep all my feathered friends happy.
